This drawing was the result of a Discord server Secret Santa gift exchange; Given Strongbeard’s interests and the references he provided, I decided to draw his Warrior of Light from Final Fantasy XIV as a figure for a major arcana tarot card – The World. To make it as accurate a tarot card as possible, I looked up what this card usually depicts and recreated it with elements from the game, notably the weapons and the chocobos.

This little character started off as the nameless player character for a 2D platformer demo made for a Computer Science CEGEP Program class; Later on, I decided to redesign him when I started having ideas for an action-adventure RPG set in a clown world, in which he would be the protagonist. These are incidentally my first, self-taught attempts at animating 2D assets for a video game, of which I’m pretty proud of despite their roughness. When redesigning him, I wanted to give him a cuter, more polished and vibrant look that still kept his signature feature – the frilly collar/mouth.
